Insurance
We recommend that you insure your valuable purchase. The most obvious is that you may want to add it to your existing homeowners policy. However, we highly recommend keeping your jewelry separate from your homeowners policy. Here is a list of questions we prepared to ask your insurer to be sure you are covered as you expect. (See “Are You Covered?” below.) Especially if you are a renter, the Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company is the company we refer our customers to. You may click on their site at www.jewelersmutual.com to complete an application for insurance. If you apply for insurance online through Jewelers Mutual, and you have no current policy with the company, you will need:

A recent appraisal (within the last 12 months) for your new diamond
A valid Visa, Master Card, Discover or American Express card
Current e-mail address

We can supply you with a Jewelers Mutual accepted appraisal (free if we sold you the item), or you can bring in your other items to be insured, and for a reasonable fee, we will write up an appraisal for them as well.
Additionally, you will need to advise them of the details of who will be wearing or have the jewelry in his/her possession, with that person’s current address. It warrants mention that if you have been convicted of a crime, you will need to also provide details of the offense.
If you currently hold a policy with Jewelers Mutual, all you need to do to obtain coverage for your new purchase is to fax a request to Jewelers Mutual, along with a copy of the appraisal or valuation. Jewelers Mutual will add the jewelry to your policy and bill you for the additional premium.

The insurance policy will cover the costs of repair in the event of damage to your new diamond jewelry. Or in the event of loss, theft, and mysterious disappearance, Jewelers Mutual will ask you to select or make a new item from an approved Jewelers Mutual jeweler (of which we are) and the replacement is not finished until you are happy with the replacement item. The best part is that you can be in control of the replacement, just as you were for the original. (Not all insurance works this way.)

Because in life the unexpected can happen, if your jewelry does mysteriously disappear or is damaged, lost or stolen, you should immediately call Jewelers Mutual at 888-884-2424, or report your claim through the www.jewelersmutual.com. You should also report your loss to the police should you suspect that it was stolen.
